Luonnollista kemiaa -videosarjan johdantovideot löytyvät alta. Kannattaa katsoa ne molemmat läpi ennen kuin lähtee tarkemmin tutustumaan Turun yliopiston kasvitieteellisen puutarhan kasvikylttiuudistukseen paikan päälle.
Ensimmäinen video esittelee kasvikylttien perinteisen tiedon, siis tiedon, joka yleisesti löytyy lähes kaikista kasvitieteellisistä puutarhoista. Videolla kerrotaan myös mielenkiintoisia pointteja lajien kemiasta eli miten lajeja kannattaa vertailla toisiinsa. Kannattaa myös opetella tulkitsemaan lajien latinankielisiä nimiä, niin saa nimistäkin kaiken irti. Pelkkä suomenkielinen nimi ei ole aina yhtä informatiivinen kuin latinankielinen lajinimi.
Toinen video pureutuu kasvikylttien siihen osaan, jota ei löydy tietääksemme mistään muusta kasvitieteellisestä puutarhasta. Siinä kerromme kylttien kemiamittareista, joiden avulla jokaisen lajin kemiasta voi muodostaa yksinkertaisen yleiskuvan. Antioksidantit, hapettuvat yhdisteet, tanniinit ja lääkinnälliset yhdisteet ovat toivottavasti tämän videon jälkeen kaikille ainakin jollakin tavalla tuttuja. Kaikkein uutuusarvoisin asia kasvikylteissä on kemiallinen monimuotoisuus; se onkin monissa lajeissa tosi hurjalla tasolla. Videoissa kerrotaan lisäksi uutta tietoa lajien kemiallisesta evoluutiosta eli siitä, kuinka kehittyneitä ne ovat evolutiivisesti tuottamaan erilaisia kemiallisia yhdisteitä.

Introduction videos
The two introduction videos of the Natural chemistry video series are above. It is a good idea to watch both of them before you go and explore the new plant labels at the Botanical Garden of the University of Turku.
The first video explains the traditional information found in all plant labels in any botanical garden. You will also learn how it pays off to compare the chemistry of different plant species. It is also worth to learn to interpret the Latin names of the species, since they can be very informative for the species.
The second video deals with the part of plant labels that cannot be found – to the best of our knowledge – in any other botanical garden. There we show the chemistry indicators that help you to form a useful overall picture of the chemistry of each species. After this video we hope that antioxidants, easily oxidized compounds, tannins and medicinal compounds are familiar to all of you at least to a certain extent. The most novel thing in the labels is the chemical diversity index; this unexplored diversity is quite huge in many of the species. Each plant video will also show new information of the chemical evolution of the species, i.e. how developed are the species in evolution to produce different types of chemical compounds.

De två inledningsvideorna i videoserien naturlig kemi finns ovan. Det är en bra idé att ta en titt på båda två innan du kollar de nya växtskyltarna i Åbo universitets botaniska trädgård.
Den första videon förklarar den traditionella informationen som hittas i växtskyltarna i alla botaniska trädgårdar. Du lär dig också nyttan av att jämföra kemin hos olika växtarter. Det är också värt att lära sig tolka artens latinska namn, eftersom de kan vara mycket informativa för arten.
Den andra videon handlar om växtskyltarnas information som inte kan hittas – såvitt vi vet – i någon annan botanisk trädgård. In den förevisar vi kemi-indikatorer som hjälper dig att skapa en förenklad helhetsbild av kemin hos varje art. Efter denna video hoppas vi att antioxidanter, lättoxiderade föreningar, tanniner och medicinska föreningar är bekanta för er alla åtminstone i viss utsträckning. Den färskaste informationen i skyltarna är indexet för kemisk mångfald som är ganska stor för många av arterna. Varje växtvideo kommer också att visa ny information om artens kemiska evolution, dvs. hur utvecklad är arten för att producera olika typer av kemiska föreningar.
